does Crediting account before statement count?

hi,
I have a virgin credit card , first purchase mid julyish , i credited my account before my first statement came in august, Then statement came, and i made the payment a day too late and got charged a late fee(think ive also lost my promotional rates too), could i argue that the payment i made before the statement came should of counted towards it? as i have checked my barclaycard statements over the last year and i have payed credit into the account before a statement comes and the credit just counts towards the "minimum payment" so i wouldnt have to make a further payment, this isnt the case with virgin?
many thanks,

I'm afraid that with most (maybe all) Credit Cards you are required to pay at least the Minimum Payment during the payment cycle from the Statement Date until the Due Date.
Payments before the Statement Date are not usually counted as a payment for that payment cycle.
I'm not sure why you would have been able to do this with Barclaycard unless you were continually one cycle ahead meaning that next month's payment counted for this month's payment cycle.
You could tell them that you didn't realise this and as its a "first offence" they may revoke the penalty and re-instate your promotional rate.
