Agency fees on rented flats / houses

Hi, I am looking to rent in Central London. Can anyone tell me how much the fees for agents usually are?

By the way any ideas how to avoid paying them overall? How could I find landlords / housing comp. directly?
Thanks, o.

Go via the local landlords association - google it for your specific area or check yellow pages or local chamber of commerce may have a contact number. Try gumtree, viva street, letalife etc

Currently LAs fees can be whatever they want to charge and whatever tenants are prepared to pay, and they'll be charged per applicant so if you're renting as a couple it can get pretty expensive.

A LL who self-manages his/her properties is likely to charge you only the direct costs of a credit check (between 16 and 50 quid depending on which firm they use.

Personally I think the letting agent make up the amount of the charge on the spot depending on how much they think they can fleece you for.

Smart suit, £300, dressed like a chave, £50.

So, to sum up my reply, buy a tracksuit from matalan.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

Which bit of central London are you interested in?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
