DIY'ing it might cost around £200. Screwfix do an 8.5kW shower for £57.99. They are probably the cheapest place to get the bits. They are online, too, and will enable you to cost it all up, bar tiles. Toipps are probably cheapest for tiles.
Good luck."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
Does your existing consumer unit have RCD (residual current device) on the proposed space for the mcb? If not you'll need a seperate RCD just to run the shower.
It also depends how far the shower is from the consumer unit as far as cable and labour costs are concerned. I rarely get requests to fit these nowadays, but when I did the average overall fitting costs would vary between £200 and £350 for me and the electrician. Insisting on a concealed water supply might add to the cost, if you have single skin solid wall it will be awkward to chase the pipe work in without breaking through and if it's a stud wall it will have to be opened up and repaired. Would you consider chrome plated copper discreetly entering the unit from above to save money?
A professional tiler usually charges around £20 per square metre including adhesive and grout and the tiles will vary.
Legally it isn't possible to DIY the electrical installation without notifying building control and paying for an inspection under Part P.0 -
......which costs about £90, I believe."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0
