entitledto.com problems?

Hi there, I desperatly need to know if my family is able to claim any more in benefits but I am having problems with the website entiltedto.com that was suggested.
In the work section it asks how many hours me and my husband work per week, he works 38 so i checked the right box and I work none as I am a full time mum to our 2 children. On the same page it asks what our weekly childcare costs are which is presently £30 per week as my 3 year old only does a few hours per week at playgroup. However when I click next it says

*quote* Work hours are too low to qualify for Working Tax Credit. Please re-enter details as ineligible for help with childcare costs.*quote*

Now what can I do? I can't change the information given as i dont work so what do I do to move onto the next page etc?

I beleive we are currently receiving something stupid like £4 per week working tax credit but thats not the problem, the problem is I don't know if I am missing out on other benefits we could be claiming and I don't know how to find out if I am, I live in a small country village that has no CAB and I don't drive so I cant get into town to go and see them without taking two young children on a bus which is a nightmare!

Any help with this would be gratefully received
Thanks in advance
Chloe

You cannot claim for childcare costs if one of you does not work. Its why it will not allow you to proceed any further. You will have to mark childcare costs as zero.
  • Wont your 3 yr old be getting his/her nursery place paid for if its only a few hours per week? If so, you dont have any childcare costs.

As you've been told, no because you're not working so them being in a playgroup is a voluntary thing and not done out of need because there is no other option.
  • Hi Chloe,

You won't be able to claim childcare costs back from tax credits as you are not working. So put zero in this box on entitledto.

"As you've been told, no because you're not working so them being in a playgroup is a voluntary thing and not done out of need because there is no other option."

Conor -That's not strictly true. All children are entitled to free early education places at ages 3 and 4 under the Sure Start. A child becomes eligable at the start of the term following their 3rd birthday. (my daughter was 3 in May and has just qualified for her free education place). When was your child 3?

The early education places are 12.5 hours a week for 39 weeks of the year. The 12.5 hours are usually divided up into 5 sessions at 2.5 hours each. You childs pre school will automatically apply for this funding, you do not need to do anything other than sign a form. This is completly separate from tax credits.

    Hope this helps,
    Chaz
