Laptop mouse problems

I have a laptop and use a usb mouse with it as dont really like the touchpad bit much so have it deactivcated

I got the mouse from Asda for about £6.99 or thereabouts and its a Trust Optical Micro Mouse. I have swapped it twice as it went wrong, it starts going funny and moving slowly then stops

Is there some surfaces that they shouldnt be used on as it seems to work better on some surfaces than others?

Is there a difference between a mouse for a PC and a mouse for a laptop?

Can anyone recommend a mouse for a laptop that has been good and no problems?

Thanks

Usually Optical Mice can have a problem with shiny, high gloss surfaces. When it comes to opticals then there are some differences like dpi. This is the resolution and the higher the more responsive and accurate the mouse should be. I use a £7.99 sigma optical 5 button mouse that has a switch for 800/1600 dpi and there is a real difference. This mouse is 3 years old and now is starting to develop squeeks from the mouse wheel and clicking problems as well as the odd tracking one as well. I have just bought a Razer Diamondback 3G from Play for £25.99 as I used one a few days ago and it is a vast improvement on my present one even though the DPI is only 200 higher.

I suppose its what feels right. Try PC world as they usually have a range of Optical/Laser mice out on display and it will let you see what you prefer. As for performance, It depends what you want it for, Just every day to day use then a normal cheap Optical would do but get something with a higher DPI if you want to do gaming.
