Can any digital camera take shots that don't need post shot processing?

I have used several differing digital cameras this year compact that sell for £100 to £300 and even a DSLR but all seemed to need tweaking in Photo Software. Are there any compacts that the shot can used straight out of the camera?

I despair on this point:confused:

Depends on your photography and requirements. Whether a photo needs "tweaking" is purely a subjective viewpoint. Every single compact creates shots that can be "used". Depends on what you're wanting it for.

I have used all the software programmes, some with auto features that work well with one camera's shots and not so well with another camera. Now I tend to go through a number of steps manually and always get much better 'after' shots. My consolation is a good friend who is a pro photographer, with serious equipment, spends significant time on post shot processing.

    Was your question rhetorical then?

With the right f-stop, ISO etc you can create effects with a standard SLR that would need no alteration at all.

What was hard to comprehend about my OP?

I am fed up spending time fiddling on post processing and I thought an helpful fellow MSE may have a camera that doesn't need this laborious processing?

As I said surely it is subjective and depends on what you want. I've never seen a picture taken with a digital camera yet that needed post processing. Are the photos for sending to a friend's mobile, personal momentos, for international publishing, gallery photography exhibition.... ?

As for comprehension, I understood the OP (although it was open ended, hence my response), but your second post seemed to be more of a vent which made me wonder if the OP was simply a vent with a rhetorical question. And considering your other thread which does seem to be a rhetorical vent/warning as well...

  • I believe that most DSLR images need post-processing. It's part of photography to need to tweek an image after it's been taken. I'm sure it happened in the days of film and i'm sure it will always continue.

One thing i read is that the majority of digital images are under-sharpened (and this is supposed to be intentional and part of the image sensors processing).

Personally, i shoot in RAW, convert to DNG and 'tweek' in Adobe Lightroom 2. The photos from my Panasonic L10 are perfectly adequate without it, but i like to have a bit of artistic control over the 'processing' step

Could this requirement to post-process images be due to your settings on the camera? Sometimes leaving it on fully auto doesn't cut the mustard

Personally I love the post production process, CS3 has rescued some very poor images, where it would be unfeasible to re-shoot.

I love CS3, its my friend, although I did try a number of editing programs and most are dire.
