If it is an Intel CPU, you just have to install the Speedstep drivers and it should do it automatically. Make sure Power Management is set to "Laptop".

Its not, its an AMD Turion 64.

I can't work out why HNC isn't working ? I've used if for the last year with no problems at all ? It might a net framework problem as it needs that to run, but I've installed v2 3 times so far and nothing !!

Yup, I've tried 3.5 and it still won't work.
I read a thread on one of the laptop forums that said NHC 'might' only work with 2.x...
A bit of long shot, but as it won't work with either . . .

OK, thanks everyone, I've found the problem. Acer supply drivers for the CPU !! (new one on me!) without them the speed switch won't work...
Now I've installed the driver it all works fine. . .

Try installing the "Cool'n'Quiet" drivers from the AMD website.
