just do a search on here, there are lots of threads for freecycle.

also, it isnt a charity, its a yahoo based group, for helping stop items that are still usable, going to landfill

    Hello Top Dog

I'll move your thread to the 'Charities' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    Regards

Not necessarily all of it in a hurry. Different freecycle groups have different rules: in ours, you can only post two 'Wanteds' a week, and it's not smiled on if one of them is "I need a bed, a sofa, a fridge, a freezer, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, an oven and a dining table" and the other is "I need bedding and towels and cushions and crockery and cutlery" etc

If you have things now which you could pass on, that's helpful - people get to know who gives and who takes all the time. Even if you don't think you have, join your local group now and get a feel for what's wanted and what's offered - you never know, you may have just the thing someone's looking for!

And the other 'problem' with Freecycle is that you're usually expected to pick it up yourself. Unless you have access to a small van / large estate car and appropriate helpers, that could be a nightmare, because if people want to get rid of large items they usually want to get rid of them NOW, not wait until you can organise to pick up several items.

So, what else can you do? Talk to your housing officer / someone on the lettings team and ask if they ever give grants / help to new tenants. Ask if they know of sources of cheap furniture. There may be projects in your area: here we have Emmaus, Aspire and SOFA Project, all of which do low cost items and deliver! Let your friends / family / neighbours know you're moving and that you'll need furniture, it's amazing what you'll be offered. And start saving now ...

you need to follow the link in your acceptance email to go to the group and view the ads. or as youve already found your local group on yahoo and signed up, then you just go back to that groups homepage and click on 'messages' on the left hand side of the screen. that then takes you into the groups ad pages.

or you should be getting emails direct from your local group, saying what is available

i personally find it easier to read online, than follow the many emails you get sent
