Hi - I'm sure a saw a thread on here ages ago that linked to a list of all the registry offices in England, and had pictures of the suites too. Can anyone help me find it?
We're looking to get married in December, but our local registry office is horrible, so we want to find some others nearby that are a but prettier...
Thanks
YC

Do you need to go to the registry office and be married there? Why not see if the reception venue is licensed for weddings - you would still have to book and pay for a registrar to actually marry you and this will give you more control over the venue and how it looks.0

I just looked on my local council's website and there was a link to a PDF file with pictures of all the registry offices in the area as well as other venues licensed to hold civil ceremonies. I'm in Worcestershire, but I've also checked Shropshire and Devon venues this way, so I guess most councils have this somewhere on their website.0

Yorkshire chick, are you in Yorkshire? The York registry office is nice. Also it might be a bit far if you're in W Yorks but the Pocklington one in E Yorks is at Burnby Hall which is very pretty and has a famous water lilly garden. They're the ones we looked at.0

The reception venue is either going to be a function room in a pub, or at someone's house, we're on a very tight budget.
We could probably have a bigger fancier wedding if we waited, but we would be talking at least 5 years, and we don't want to wait.Debts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £12000 -

Hi, yes I'm in West Yorkshire near Leeds. I'll have a look at those 2 though, we wouldn't mind travelling (although not actually sure how far Pocklington is)Debts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £12000 -

When did they knock down the old building? The reason I ask is that I've been married before - at Leeds register office about 9 years ago. I'm presuming it was the old building I got married at?Debts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £12000 -

ages ago, its part of the regeneration of that area of leeds & it was a souless place...the Town Hall is much nicer, if you pop in they'll let you have a look & you have to go to the Town Hall now to register your wedding/bans/etc HTH0 -
Sorry to ask a bit of a dim question, but can you get married in register offices not in the area you live in? The reason I ask is that the one in our borough is miles away and a horrible 60's thing, whereas the one in the borough next to us is a really lovely old building with grounds for photos. I know which one I prefer!!"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0

From what I've read, it looks like you can get married in any borough, but you have to register the bands in your own - I thinkDebts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £12000
