That's why the country's in such a mess, because the people have no money as they've given it all to the govt, who have lost/squandered it all away.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Bagby - I bet petrol/tobacco/alcohol tax/duty increases at next budget to cover shortfall due to stamp duty "holiday".

Many people have no money because they've spent it all on cars, big TV's, designer clothes, exotic holidays etc etc. Now the sky is dark with chickens coming home to roost and its everybody's fault but their own.

Microstar - at least they can sell the cars and get about half to a third of what they paid, and the TVs and clothes and get about 10% and the exotic holidays - hang on - they won't get anything for those. Oh but I forgot, no one's got any money anyway so they won't be able to raise any cash at all.

I may make light of the situation and my previous post was slightly tongue in cheek, but I think your post is going to be very close to the truth for a lot of people

We have the cheapest transaction costs for buying and selling property in Europe, the lowest taxation on buying and selling residential property,

Oh yes, so true. We're living in Belgium now and we can expect to pay about 17-18% in taxes and fees if we decide to buy.

It makes 3% stamp duty look like a bargain.
