Oyster won't work at London Bridge?!?!
Every week my boyfriend buys a travel card online for his oyster. He travels from Anerley overground station to London Bridge and from there he takes the underground to Highbury.
He never usually has a problem but if he ever takes a Monday off, the following Tuesday his Oyster card is not accepted on the overground barriers at London Bridge, and is only activated from the underground barriers. When he first described this problem to me I assumed it was because there is no 'touch in' point at Anerley overground... but if that's the case it doesn't make sense that he can 'touch in' at London Bridge overground every other day of the week except for the Tuesday after he's taken a Monday off. (Unless the ticket barriers are left open on those days...)
Previously he has been able to blag his way through the gates by promising he paid online in advance, but today I got a very disgruntled call from him because the ticket staff made him pay the fayre from Anerley to London Bridge despite the fact he'd renewed his Oyster travel card online. He simply needed to activate it from the underground barriers. His journey is completely within the zones he pre-pays every week.
Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have a solution apart from NEVER having a Monday off EVER again? It's a mystery to us both...

I'm assuming his travelcard is valid Tuesday to Monday. As your boyfriend will have found out, online Oyster purchases can only be collected from Underground, DLR or London Overground validators. Online purchases cannot be collected from the validators at London Bridge National Rail or any other National Rail station not on the London Overground network.
A travelcard is not valid until it is loaded on to the Oystercard. I suggest he makes sure he buys the travelcard and loads it on to the Oystercard the previous week if he knows hes not going to make the journey on the Monday.Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
i suggest your dude read the oyster activation pages before he purchases in future.0
