Question about balance transfers

Sorry if I am being a bit dense!
I have applied and been approved for a credit card which is interest free on balance transfers and new purchases until Sept 09. However, it won't arrive before next week when I am going on holiday, so I will take my old credit card with me (which isn't interest free).
When I get the new card, can I transfer the balance from the old one onto it (assuming there is one, depends how much I splurge on my hols!)
The only reason I ask is because when I applied for it (today) it asked me what balances I wanted to transfer and I put none, as I didn't have any.
So I suppose what I want to know is can you transfer balances at any time or only at the time of the original application?

It varies with different cards, but should say on the T&C on the website too. Usually the transfer should be made within 30 days so you will need to deal with this as soon as you get back. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
Yes you can transfer the balance after you return from your holiday - just give them a call.
However, as George has said check that there are no restrictions on time limits for completing the Balance Transfer to get the promotional rate. Having to make the transfer in the first 30days is quite common.
Have a nice holiday :beer:0 -
Thanks, I will!0

I'd double check your terms and conditions. Just purely that if any balance transfers or purchases mix then you might not benefit from the promotional offers from the company.0 -

Well the OP has stated that the offer is 0% on Balance Transfers and Purchases until September 2009 (nice offer actually :j ), so mixing the two shouldn't be a problem.0 -
Which card is it out of curiosity? I'd still double check the T&C's, just to be on the safe side.0

It's a Capital One Platinum. I just checked it and it looks as if I can transfer balances at any time:-
