Stamp duty - rebate for those who have bought recently?

Though I have still to hear the ins and outs, I'm going to be irate if Gordon Brown ignored those who have just bought and had to pay stamp duty.
This may be an incentive for first time buyers but what about those who have just paid this, will they get a rebate? I doubt it.

You can't have it both ways. Those people who were purchasing (below £125001) at the time of the last threshold increase didn't have to pay Stamp Duty on a transaction that hadn't yet completed, but the sales process had started.I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0 -
No different to purchasing something in a shop and then seeing it in the sale. You generally wouldn't expect a refund of the difference would you??0

Slightly different, the sale on something in a shop is not funded by tax payer's money.
I doubt there will be a refund but it's a difficult topic because if someone completed yesterday then they're out of pocket and only because of 24 hours. But if you were to give a refund then where does it stop? What of you said anyone that bought 6 weeks previously can have a refund. Won't those that bought 5 weeks and 6 days ago be annoyed?
So I doubt we'll see anyone getting money back but it will be annoying for some. Fortunately, because of the number of transactions recently it might only apply to two or three people

Hi, a friend of mind is in the process of buying a house for £130K, however they have only exchanged contracts so far.
Will they need to pay stamp duty or if I understand an answer from earlier will they not have to?
i.e as the sales process has started but NOT completed they won't have to pay it?

So long as completion doesn't take place until tomorrow (I think they said the new rule starts tomorrow), they'll not need to pay it.I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0

In light of this I am actually GUTTED!!!
I sent the money to the solicitors yesterday for the stamp duty, deposit and fees etc and contracts were exchanged yesterday.
My completion date is the 17th
Does anyone know if I can get my stamp duty money back as we have only exchanged and not completed?????

and i htought i was badly off as i bought over a year ago and had to pay stamp duty... i'll shut up now!!First win (October) - Apple Ipod off a radio competition
November - new nokia mobile phone, £250 electrical voucher (both radio comptitions)

If you haven't completed, you don't have to pay stamp duty yet. It doesn't matter if the money is with the solicitor - you will get a refund for whatever is left over from the transaction. We even got interest for the deposit money sitting in solicitor's account, and that was a better rate than our account was earning!!!!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
