Student House - being made to pay council tax

Comments

  • She said it wasn't legal to get the university to produce that certificate *laughs*. I was a student, its not like I'm lying - it was / is a three year degree! Thanks to all ^^, it has been going on for to long, I just wish someone would sit down and sort it out once and for all :(

And yeah, I work over the summer ^^, - Lucky that mum and dad help me out a fixed amount each month, so means I am saving all work money to cover rent for next twelve months so everything else can be spent on day to day stuff (or petrol for placements next year :( lol...)

    Thankies!! XD

You are still a student over the holidays...

If you weren't you would be able to claim unemployent & jobseekers alowance during your holidays.

The council advisor you spoke to didn't know what he/she was talking about.

If the uni have only certified you until the end of your summer term, then that will explain, and your uni are muppets... Mine certifies us as registered on a 5 year course, with graduation date, and then reconfirms term dates and enrolement status each year...

if your not working during holidays - you sign on for Job Seekers and get Council tax & Housing benefits

Local Authorities CAN charge for main holiday periods in Scotland, most dont though
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

  • This is really stupid and has happened to me too. I just had to go to my uni's student support office and make them set it right in front of me. I even had a court appearance scheduled!! Ridiculous.

You are still a student. Done and dusted.

unless something has changed recently, all previous advice has stated that you cannot since you are still classed as in full time education. here's an example of a thread.

could you provide a link to the info saying you can, as if the rules have changed this would be important for a lot of student.

Absolutely wrong - unless you're lying to JCP.
