Hi! My daughter typed up 15 pages of work around her friends over the weekend and saved the work to cd as two files. We cant open them though as they are .wps files. We need to get them open tonight to get them printed out for college tomorrow. Can anyone please help.
I have done a search and seen other people have had the same problem but i do not seem to be able to solve it. One option was to download openoffice which is free software and thats supposed to let me open them but it doesnt. Ive tried a converter but that didnt work. The programs we currently have installed that we could use to open typed work is Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Office Tools and then normal notepad and word.
Is there anyway to use these to open the 2 files? I would be so so grateful for any help that would allow me to do so.
She has said she would type it all up again but that seems such a waste.

Were they created using MS Works?
If so download the Works 2000 Converter from Microsoft which'll allow you to open the .wps files in Word.
Or if WordPerfect, download a viewer here.0 -
Thanks, ive just downloaded the Works viewer as that is what was used to create the files but it doesnt allow me to view them. I do not have Microsoft Word installed to go into and open the files. I only have Publisher and Office Tools.0

Thanks. Im sort of getting somewhere as i can open them in wordpad but they are funny characters rather than proper text. It doesnt have the option to open .wps files i have to choose 'all files' for it to show them up to be able to open them. Not sure what people usually use as a word processor but we always use Microsoft Publisher. We have done for years and have recently got the XP version (was using 98 before but would work win win Xp which we now have too) which we are trying to get used to all the functions. Me and the kids get on so well with it though for doing letters, posters, school work etc. Its really universal. Would there be any advantage in having a different word processor?0

:j Yippeeee!!! Ive opened them and got them printed out. Im really not quite sure how but we have got what we want now which is the main thing.
So, many thanks to you, i knew i could rely on MSE buddies to help out in an emergency. :T0 -
Thanks for that, will keep that in mind as thats the only bad thing i can say about publisher that it gets a bit confusing sometimes laying things out correctly, when you are doing more than one page. Thanks again.0
