Keeping NCD if not driving?

Does any know if you can keep your NCD years if you stop driving a car for 1 or 2 years?

My brother has 4 years NCD and is thinking about selling his car (as he won't need one for 1-2 years), but would like to keep as much of his NCD as possible.

Any ideas anyone?

To keep his bonus he needs to insure a car with two years of not having insurance. Therefore have insurance within two years of him not having insurance. What I'm going to do next year is get insured on my wifes car so I keep my hard earned bonus.
