Fixed Price Direct Debit... watch out for this gotcha

If your direct debit is refused for some reason the supplier may try to kick you off your fixed price deal straight on to their current 'normal' rate.

I just had a heck of a time with Scottish Power over this (I stopped the payment because they were trying to take substantially more than they had agreed only two weeks before!). To be fair to them, though, once I had got past the (powerless) 'front line' customer support the problem was quickly solved. But I think it would have been a different story if the error had been mine.

I hope this helps someone avoid a potentially expensive slip up.

Best wishes, Neil
