Debit Cards and Savings Accounts

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me....

My credit is awful, I cant get anything! Is there a debit card I can get without a credit check? So I can pay bills over the phone and things etc?

Also, What savings accounts can I get without a credit check? Whats the best ones?

Thanks

Matt

Some basic bank accounts have a debit card such as visa electron or solo. Most people can get these as long af they have not been involved in fraudulent activity. Savings accounts just need an ID check not a credit check.

Savings account depends on what you need it for.

  • Hi

With a visa electron, is there anything I cant pay with it? Im not in debt, just have poor credit from a few years ago which is holding me back now.

At the moment, all I have a savings account, because I cant find a debit card anywhere.

So I can get a visa electron? Will they credit check me?

    Hi Matt,

Why don't you ask them outright so you hear it from the 'horse's mouth' so to speak. There's a "contact us" part on their web site so take the plunge, they can only tell you yeah or nay.

You could also go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and ask their advice, they are great folk to put you right.

All the very best ....and keep staying sensible and stay our of debt! :D

  • Hi

Its easier to ask people in the know on here, rather than going from bank to bank.

This is the debt free forum, so im wondering what people with bad credit such as myself, use to pay there bills by phone etc?

    Thanks

Though I understand your point Matt, I was just referring to the Visa electron one as it seems to be more the likely one from their web site. I'd still ask them if it were me as folk don't seem to be saying too much here at present. If nothing else, at least we've bumped this up a bit.

Let's hope more come on later today.

    Sue.

  • Thanks Sue.

Wish life was a bit easier sometimes! I only want to be able to pay my bills by phone and it seems I cannot do that, at the moment I have to rely on other peoples cards, and giving them the cash, which is rather embarrassing to be honest, ide rather be able to pay it myself and get things in order.

I got a halifax basic bank account with no problems and I have an atrocious credit history. The Visa electron card is very widely taken these days.

I have a lloyds card, but you can only use it in their machines. It is a visa debit though. I got an electron with Halifax, but they insist on not using the counters with their basic service, and I balk at paying my money into soeone who won't even let me approach their staff.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
