can someone help? i bought my mates Golf GTI a few weeks ago and i need to sort out insurance soon - what's the best place to go and any tricks for getting the price down?
didn't really consider the insurance costs and so can't really afford to pay full price
i'm only 21 so will probably do it in my old mans name, i also heard to put down a low mileage and play around with a few different job titles.
any advice appreciated!

and can earn dosh sewing mail bags!
Putting it in your old man's name is called "fronting" and it's usually quite easy for insurers to detect if you have a claim, they pay out to any third party and seek the money off you through the courts which could bankrupt you and also lead to criminal action.
Declaring a lower mileage probably won't make much difference to the premiums and, assuming the car is over 3 yrs old, the mileage is on the annual MOT which is now computerised.
Any more "cunning plans" Baldrick?0 -
"any advice appreciated!"
Don't lie to insurance companies and don't state what lies you are going to tell the insuarnce company on an internet forum.
There is a sad tale on the web from someone who did exactly this (involving fronting and a few other untruths) and then totalled the car - many thousands out of pocket as a result.0 -
who said anything about fraud? all i want to do is pay a fair price for an insurance policy. I realise i'm a high risk and i accept i'll have to pay say £1000, but the quotes i'm getting so far are over £2000 and that's just ridiculous
i'm trying to do the right thing but i suppose you would prefer i carried on without insurance?0 -

You did when you said:JonBoy_SCFC wrote: »i'm only 21 so will probably do it in my old mans name, i also heard to put down a low mileage
The former is called fronting and it is fraud; the latter is also fraud if you deliberately misrepresent the mileage. Here's one of many articles that will hopefully make you see sense:

If you fraudulently misrepresent the risk then you won't have insurance. You will have an expensive piece of paper which will not provide you with any actual cover. If you really want to do the right thing you will sell the car and get a car that you can afford to insure.0 -
^^^^^^ What s/he said! :rolleyes:0
