yes.. the specs quoted seem odd.. like 230gb HD.. its 250 everywhere.. although it would be around 230 once formatted.
You may be able to get a good deal from Comet etc if lucky.. but im sure you will always find a better deal here.
I found when buying PC's that its so easy to always think "just £50 more will get me this".. and before you know it you will fork out a lot.
Your original post was probably spot on.. you knew what spec you wanted.. and you knew what you wantd it for.
Before you buy.. you need to decide whether the extra expense is worth it for you...Be nice0 -

I would leave installing the DVD drive until after you have XP up and running. Then just get the CD rom out (unscrew it and it will slide out the front) and take the wires out of it and put them in the same slots in the DVD drive.
If you have any trouble doing that just switch the computer back on and come on MSE (it will work fine with the cover hanging off and a DVD drive hanging out the front - trust me) :rotfl:
It's not the Windows installation that worries me :rotfl: it's the fitting of the drive.
CD/RW will suffice :rotfl:0 -

Well, I will stick to what I first quoted then.
I only checked his PC by what was in 'My Computer' and 'System' but it was neat for £350.....it is an e-machines PC.0 -
Honestly.. fitting a drive is so easy. All you will have to do is open the side of the Dell.. (pull back 2 levers) and then unscrew a couple of screws that hold your drive.. then take it out...
put your new 1 back in.. and connect the 2 plugs that had connected to the old drive.. screw up again.. put the side on.. and off you go.
Or.. just put the DVD writer under the CDwriter.. to do that you would just remove side of pc... removethe plastic on front of PC(for where a drive goes). just push it out. Push DVD writer through.... then connect 2spare wires.. that should be hanging in there already when dell send it.
IT sounds harder than it is.. honestBe nice0 -
Well if his PC seemed quick enough to you.. then a slight drop to your quoted spec should be fine too.
In which case.. I will have a hunt at what the best deal is.Be nice0 -

His PC was very quick.
The PC I am using right now is 3GB HDD, processor is slllllllllow and basic CD Rom, Ram 64MB, Windows 98
My main PC, currently not working, is Windows ME< 192mb Ram, 800 mhz Processor, 20GB HDD, CD/RW
So what ~I want, is a big improvement already!0 -
