Panorama. 8.30pm. BBC1. Monday (now). People & the Credit Crunch

Title says it all.

It's about how ordinary people are coping with the credit crunch, the economic situation and rising prices.

I expect it will be the usual load of old tosh, with only half a story told. But worth a watch just to see.

    First: a pub. Sheffield

Less customers, not made a profit since February. They have to still have the lights/heating on in case anybody comes in, but because the people's bills have gone up they've not got the spare money to go out to the pub.

Beer sales in pubs have gone down 10.6% in the last few months.

This couple are spending their life savings just to keep going. The bloke has taken on a job outside of the pub to keep going.

They are now so desperate to get out that they put their 5-year lease (that they bought 2 years ago for £50k) up for sale for one penny.

    Oil will stay high.

Food will come down again in price, it's an annual crop. Thailand have planted 3 crops, not 2 this year. China will have a bumper grain crop in the August.

Woman takes in students. Up to three in the summer.
She's put her kids in her old bedroom, she now sleeps in the dining room.

She gets on average £95/week for each student.

This was a really sad programme. It really hit home how much ordinary honest hard-working people are being hurt in this recession. I felt so sorry for them (well, except for the slapper - anyone notice how Vine talked about how she had "racked" up debts just as the camera was focusing on her ample bosoms?)

Yes, I am, but I'm not being squeezed by the current recession.
