JSA claim yes or no

I took redundancy from work and received a lump sum and redundancy pay amounting to £55000. I also get a small monthly pension. I was told by a colleague that I should register for JSA because of my NIC. I called into the DWP office and asked the assistant for advice. He was not sure and phoned another worker. He then handed me a jobseeker's allowance claim form and gave me a date and time for an appointment. When I took the form home and read it, it asks some very personal questions. Do I really have to go through with this because I want to register for part time work. I would not expect to get any payment because of my redundancy payout and I do think I have enough N I C paid.

If you have been in full time employment for the past few years then you will qualify for conts based JSA, and you will receive payment and NI credits.
If you do not wish to complete the form then you will not receive payment or have your credits paid.
It really is up to you. I am not aware of anything particularly personal on the forms?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Think you will be entitled to Job Seekers Allowance Contribution based at a rate of £60.50 per week and perhaps someone else will confirm but I dont think it matters how much you have in the way of savings.2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

On JSA (Conts) the private pension will be taken into account if it is over £50 per week at £1 per £1 over the £50 weekly limit. Savings are not an issue.0

It probably will make no difference to the JSA people but I will be using a big chunk of my lump sum to pay off part of my mortgage so I can keep the roof over my head.0

As it is contributions based JSA you are applying for that would not be a problem.0 -
You don't need to tell the DWP about your savings if it's just contribution based JSA you are claiming. If you're asked, politely tell the clerk that the question isn't relevant to your situation as you're not claiming anything else." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
