Laptop - forgot password!

My DD has an Acer 5315 laptop which was fine until she decided to change the password!!!
We have been trying for weeks to remember the password so she can use the laptop properly, without any luck.
It is a Widows Vista Home basic system.
I found a way on here to reset the laptop but now cannot find the information again, so that we can try it.
Could someone give us some advice please?

is it a system bios password (when you boot up)

For Vista- restart the PC and keep pressing F8 until you get the OS Choices menu, select "Safe Mode". When safe mode is loaded click on Administrator and it should go to the desktop but this depends if the Administrator account is enabled. Change/set login accounts & passwords etc.more dollar$ than sense0
