Tax credits advice please

Hello there

I wonder if I can have some opinions on my tax credits situation please ?

I got a payrise in January and informed tax credits the day that I got it. I was told by a lovely advisor that it wouldn't affect my payments as it wasn't a large amount and not to worry. (It was 6K btw).

I then get a renewal pack through a few months later saying that payments had been stopped and that I owed £800. I filled in an appeal form basically stating that I had made every effort to inform them of any change in circumstances and shouldn't have to pay them back.

So I am now in my current situation of them paying me £8 a week while I guess they consider my case....its been approx 4 months since I appealed and everytime I phone for an update I get told by some uninterested scotsman/woman that I can barely understand "they will let you know by post".

Should I tell them I don't want to receive payments while they "decide" ? Reason I ask is I don't want to owe them anymore.

BTW just thought I'd add, they couldn't organise a !!!! up in a brewery and I would complain to somone if I thought it would do any good !!

  • Why does the fact that they were Scottish make any difference?

The difference it made was that I could barely understand what they were saying, as I stated in the original post.

    Thanks for your help
  • It may be best if, in future, you have this problem that you state that you couldnt understand the adviser's strong accent.

If you want to speak to a specific contact centre as you cannot understand Scottish, you can find the number on saynoto0870.com
