Hi, I'm not sure where would be best to ask this so please feel free to move my post if there is a better place.
Anway, I am looking at retraining as a web developer. I was wondering what the best way to get training would be? Dreamweaver, flash and photoshop all seem to be prevelent as well as html. Can I learn this stuff at home from books and online training ? or are there reputable training courses to be had - I would be paying for all this myself and so £400 a day is not really an option for me! Anyhelp or advise would be great ...Thanks so much

You might be approaching this from the wrong angle, IMHO...
The first thing I'd be looking at is where I would be able to find a job! With a web company of some sort? Freelance? Have you got excellent design skills, to which you can add-on the web development skill?
There are a lot of people out there doing this sort of thing!0 -
Hmmm, it's possibly the technical angle that interests me more than the artistic design side, John. I spent many years in IT configuring large financial software packages became disillusioned and am now looking for a change of direction.0

Go SoftEng, plenty of opportunity and still, unusually for IT at the moment, good money

Where I live a 10 week Web design or Photoshop course is £15 for evening classes. They usually run for 3 terms. I think these are a good start as you get to use the software for free so you find out if you like it before investing lots of money into books and software.[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

I think you should firstly look for jobs that you are interested in, then see what skills they want from you. Minimum you will need is HTML/XHTML, CSS and probably PHP or Javascript.
I just got my first job as a Junior Web Developer and I needed XHTML, CSS, PHP and ASP (my least favourite language in the world) was desirable. I also needed skills in Fireworks and Illustrator but they were not bothered that I didn't have them as I could use Flash and Photoshop0
