Can you get paint for shower enclosures?

Can you get paint that you can use instead of tiles in shower areas? I want to install a shower at my bath. I have seen pictures of showers that have no tiled area and i'm not sure if a lining was put up or whether or not it was painted. Can anyone help?

Just asked hubby who is a manager at a DIY shop, he says they definately don't sell paint that would prevent absorbtion into the wall. Sorry.0

When we were looking at putting a shower room in our old place, I'm sure I came across some panels that were to line bathroom walls, in one of the DIY stores. They were made of a sort of brown hardboard so I suppose you were meant to paint them after putting them up, I don't know what with, but you used to be able to get paint to put onto existing tiles if you wanted to change the colour? I don't remember how you were supposed to fix them to the walls or seal the joins but I remember thinking it looked easier than tiling. Not sure if that might be worth looking for?Marsh Samphire0
