Cancel transfer - too late?

I registered on firsthelpline.com to transfer from Seeboard to British Gas on 29th October. I have now read bad things about British Gas and prices generally in the industry on this website, and would now like to hold out until the New Year. If I just don't respond to the contract etc that British Gas has just sent me, is the change null and void even though I've passed the 7 day cooling off period?

  • Wibbler the contract you have agreed over the telephone with British Gas is a legal contract. By ignoring it, the transfer will just go ahead. From my experience of working at British Gas the cool-off period is slightly longer than 7 days.

Call them and tell them in no uncertain terms you wish to cancel for the reasons you have given. They may however tell you it is too late.

Thanks for the reply! I've never agreed anything with British Gas themselves - I did it through FirstHelpline.com. Would that make a difference? I haven't signed the contract they sent through yet...
  • If it's a quote you are OK. I would imagine it's a contract though. You dont need to sign a contract anymore to make it binding Im afraid.

I'm afraid you'll have to read it... :money:

Strangely, about 1 month after transferring , BG have phoned up and said I'm still in my cooling off period for another five days. So now I've no idea what to do - do I stick with Seeboard Dual fuel, where I'm in credit and get Nectar points, or do I switch to British Gas, who come out top on First Helpline comparision site but who I've heard on here are hoodwinking customers with discounted prices (and will put them up very soon)? HELP!
