Disabling ZA before installing Norton 2008

Hi all,
The Zonealarm Internet Security Suite installed on my Desktop has now expired (I was never very happy with it anyway) and now I want to install Norton Internet Security 2008 (I have it on my Laptop and it's been absolutely fine).
My question is this: can I simply disable ZA from loading at startup so I can install Norton and ensure it's running ok, or must I completely remove the ZA from my computer before even thinking about installing Norton? I want to ensure I don't get problems with the two programs clashing, but I'd feel happier getting the Norton up and running satisfactorily before getting rid of the ZA. Thanks
Brian

I'm sure many here would think it ironic that you are uninstalling Zone Alarm to install Norton 2008.
If you are going to do it, install Kaspersky 2009.
I'm running Zone Alarm ISS on my laptop and it appears to be doing fine.
Just waiting for Zone Alarm ISS 8 to be released via Updates and any initial bugs to be ironed out.
Just uninstall ZA, but disconnect from the Internet until Norton is fully installed.0 -

Yep, bit like running out of petrol and then filling up the tank with mud."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Still, we must respect diversity in this world.
And I'm sure that the children of the employees of Symantec are very grateful that people are willing to put this [strike]bloated rubbish[/strike] wonderful and extremely efficient software on their PC's in order that they may eat.

Thanks for the replies!
I've long suspected that ZA was causing problems on my pc; my new laptop came with a 60 day free trial of Norton 2008 already installed. I was initially sceptical of this - I've seen all the bad press that Norton has received in the past. However, it's been absolutely fine and the reviews of Norton 2008 seem to reflect this too - it appears that Norton seem to have got things sorted at long last.
Since I needed to renew the free trial on my laptop (and also do something about the expired ZA on my desktop) I went for a copy of Norton I.S. 2008 with a 3-user Licence (£15 for a retail version from Ebay). So giving Norton a go on my desktop is worth a go I think (hope!).
