  • Do a google on 'bangernomics'. Get an old Volvo 740 or similar. When it becomes expensive to repair, scrap it and get another.

i recently researched this, i was going to get an astra elite on motability but after working out i would be handing over nearly £8k over 3 years with nothing to show at the end of it decided that it was defo not a moneysaving idea, the interest on the dla car loan and the restrictions put on it made it cheaper to get a bank loan(depends on your credit situation)

£2k to spend it a decent amount on a small car. I would recommend a toyota yaris considering your requirement. Plenty about with a budget of £2k. (1999-2000)

I do very few miles (easily less than 1,000 a year), but am thinking a smaller car would be easier to handle than a large one (my current one is the size of an Astra), plus will it not be more expensive to keep on the road once the car tax becomes linked to engine size (or does that only apply to new vehicles)?

Am supposed to be visiting some garages this afternoon, but can't even find a starting point (everything is out of my range...) :(

Happycat, if you are on the higher rate mobility component of DLA and you use your car exclusively for your benefit you can get your tax paid for you regardless of engine size.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?
