pc keeps crashing then rebooting

My pc does this quite often recently. sometimes it takes about 3 or 4 goes at booting up then crashes again before it finally boots up and stays on.
I tried to boot up in safe mode but when given the prompts to choose from the arrow keys seem to be disabled so I cant move it up to boot in safe mode. The arrows on the number pad wont work either.
Finally I clicked on start / run / msconfig / and then selected BOOT.INI and selected safeboot to finally boot in safe mode...and that worked.
prior to that I clicked on general tab and opted to choose diagnostic startup...but it denied me the option to do that as it said I didnt have administrator rights. I dont have any other log on option...just my normal log on.
I'd already updated adaware and avg...so I ran both of these for a complete scan in safe mode...and they found nothing.
after reboot...again it took 3 attempts to reboot. when I finally got it up and running I tried to run the trend micro online scanner but it crashes half way through. I had the same result when I tried the online scanner last night too.
I'll post a hyjack log below to see if you can see anything suspiscious.
could this be a faulty pc rather than a virus ?
Thanks for your help in advance.

First thing I would try is disabling the auto restart on system failure so instead of restarting it will actually tell you what the error message or number is then you can search for a solution.
If you don't know how to do this, go into Control Panel and select System then on the Advanced tab click on Startup and Recovery Settings then untick Automatically Restart (this is for XP) then restart your PC and if it fails it will tell you why hopefully !0 -

MACHINE _ CHECK_EXCEPTION
***STOP : 0xoooooo9c(0x00000001, 0x8054D570, 0xB6002000, 0x00000152)
I downloaded Err.EXE from microsoft to find out what the code meant ...but it doesnt run on my pc. After clicking on it the box opens for about half a scond then vanishes. Should I be opening this tool a different way than normal ?
Is this the right tool to find out what the code means ?

This is usually a harware problem, could be overheating of your processor or other hardware where a more specific hardware error is unavailable.
Are you running an AMD based processor as they aint as good as intel processors for displaying error messages?
if your on a tower system open it up and check every piece of hardware is seated correctly in its slots and are dust and gunge free.
Check your fans are spininning (dont shove your finger in them while switched on to check from experience I can tell you it hurts)."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Had exactly the same problem on a friends computer, eventually found the back-up battery on the motherboard needed replacing.0

NTOS.exe is a Trojan
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
- If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
then produce a new hijackthis log as there may be some "tidy up" to doEx forum ambassador

ntos is indeed, solution to that can be found here
http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/585177-solved-how-remove-ntos-exe.html
But I dont think thats the reason for the error and Blue screening."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Thanks for the advice.
I'm gonna try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and see what we get.
The pc has been stable today, not had a crash just yet. I have had it in bits today giving it a good clean. I've made sure the vents and fans are clean and theres plenty of air getting in there.
I tried several times to run the online scanners and they all cause the pc to crash. I've not completed a full online scan yet
Anyway, I'll give this a try and get back to you shortly.
Thanks.
