DLA online help?

I had a stroke a few months ago and am currently filling in DLA forms. Previously I've seen fantastic advice on how to fill the forms, what's actually wanted in each section (half the questions seem to ask the same thing to me). I think the site was bhas (barton hill advice) but it doesn't exist anymore. Does anyone know of something similar?
I know I can go to CAB but it's so difficult to get an appt I know I won't get round to it.
:T in advance

The guides were written by the same man who now runs benefitsandwork.co.uk and the updated guides can be found there. There is a fee of £18.50 per year to join. I am not a member of this site but have only read good things about their guides.
• Hi Rovers,

Just bumping your thread until someone in the know comes along. You have my sympathy as I have just filled in hubby's renewal form. What about any of the Stroke charities, surely they could advise? Good luck.

Shame that they are now charging for something that was free.
Interesting to know what happened though.
Thanks.

Yeah, you've reminded me to ring the Stroke Association. I just can't face going to see someone about it. Thanks for the reminder.
• Hi Rovers,

Just read your last post about not being able to face someone. Have you ever heard of Headway, it is the main brain injuries charity for the UK. A stroke is classified as an acquired brain injury so you would be eligible for their support. My hubby's group offer benefits advice as do a lot of other groups but it will depend on where you live. There are tel no's to call, which I will put on when I find them (need a few mins).

Headway general helpline 0808 800 2244

www.headway.org.uk

helpline@headway.org.uk

Also have downloadable factsheet with help filling in DLA forms. If this does not work go to Headway website, then go to factsheets page, you will find it there -

www.headway.org.uk/sitePages.asp?step=4&contentID=1334&navID=115

Rovers the link works, you can downoad help for DLA forms direct from this link. If you are looking for support with anything (not just benefits) I can highly recommend Headway, they are my hubby's saving grace.
• If you need help on answering any question you're welcome to pm me. I often help clients fill out dla and ib forms.

I used the Cerebra site for filling in my son's form. They all give fantastic advice, relevant to the reason you are claiming.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

Thanks.

upto a couple of years ago the forums were free to use,but the more detailed guides etc have always been for paying members only
just a thought i seem to recall BHAS getting bad press for giving duff advice about 3 years ago
If the OP cant get to see someone at cab they could try a welfare rights officer(see local council)or see if DIAL have a branch near you
