11 years of untouched saving account

Hey, I need all your experts help. I saved 3500 dollars to two separate banks 11-year ago. The money has been saved and untouched for 11 years until recently I found my two saving passbooks. I went to the original banks where I saved the money, and they said the money had already been transferred to the State Department of Treasury (any account idle for more than few years will be automatically transfer to the government agency.) Does anyone know how I can claim my money back? Who should I contact for case like this? Thanks! Any information would help a great deal.

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com is a UK based site, so you might not get a great deal of help.
