Paypal refund when funds have been withdrawn???

I need to issue a refund to my Ebay buyer, but have already withdrawn the funds from Paypal.
I get this message, when I try to complete the refund

Note: If your PayPal account balance doesn't have enough money in it to cover this refund, money will be automatically transferred from your backup funding source

However, it doesn't give me the option to fund the refund this way. It just has a cancel or edit button below this message!!
Any ideas??

Put enough funds into your paypal account to cover the refund, check your card has been updated if it has been renewed thant can cause problems.

Is there not a quicker way??

Do you have a friend/partner with an account who could pay you some money by paypal so you have sufficient funds in your account?

This happened to me and the only way to refund was to load money from my bank account which took nearly a week. I explained the situation to my buyer and luckily they were happy.

Paypal will only let you refund (i.e return payment without orgianl sender incurring paypal fees) if you have enough in your paypal balance.
As has been pointed out above transferring funds from your bank account can take up to 7 days.

Previously if you decided not to wait and just sent a payment to your buyer via a card payment your buyer would incurr paypal fees for recieving the money.

BUT

Paypal have recently introduced an option (on the send money page) to send money to friends as a gift or loan etc where the person recieving the transfer incurrs no fees.

Not sure exactly where you would stand if your buyer filed a claim for non reciept in this situation but as there's a clear money trail I can't really see a problem.

It wouldn't be connected to the auction though so would not stand as proof of a refund.

The easiest way is to get a friend to send some money to you via Paypal

Well above is what your buyer will recieve via email. And you can select "personal payment owed" as reason for money sent. Your buyer would have to be pretty savvy to figure out this wasn't an actual refund on the original paypal transaction ID.
And paypal would have to be unbelievably rigid in their policies to uphold an item not recieved dispute given the evidence - but hey I don't think anyone could accuse paypal of being flexible ;+)

It will be very obvious this isn't a refund as the original payment will still be showing as 'live' in the buyers paypal. Also paypal *are* that rigid with their policies.
