Scottish Hydro THTC switch
Hi,
I read on a few forums here that people had problems changing from their Scottish Hydro THTC service to another provide because they did not support the tele-switch and two meter system that the hydro use. This is where 1 meter is for the 24hours Domestic power, lights and sockets, wilst the other is for heating, both 24hour and switched low rate.
Just called the main customer services line (opt 6) at the Utility warehouse (Telecom Plus), they looked up my meter details from a national database, got my "S" numbers and said "one must be your peak and the other must be off-peak, yeh?" so i said "yes", the guy said "right, yeh, cool"
So i double checked that they would offer a compatable service for two meters as the website only had options for one, they said "that wont be a problem. One we will bill you on the Economy 7 tarrif and the other on the standard rate" I hope they get them the right way round!
So, im now at 3p/kWh "Economy 7" as opposed to scottish hydro's latest at 8.14p/kWh "THTC" and i think from memory 12.5p/unit over 15.00 p/unit and a slightly lower service charge. All prices include vat ive mentioned.
Big bonus for me with the heating as i use 10500kWh/PA heating and 3800kWh/PA on domestic. So im saving £539 just on heating!!!
I know the prices are likley to go up over time, but over a period most will rise at the same rate.
I do notice that on friday they had a table up on their website showing prices, thats not there any more but most suppliers are revising their prices so have taken the lists down. Ill re-review my costs once they put up their new prices.
Will try and remember to re-post how i get on, but if successfull then it could be good supplier for thoes on THTC to change too.
i only just now wonder if the hydro will snooker things some how over the meters when the new bunch notify them of the change request...

Stuartsjg - wish I'd read this sooner. On 27 July I went for a cap tariff with E.On who eventually (mid-August) said they could only support 1 meter number, and I had to get one meter (MPAN number, in the jargon) disconnected. ScottishHydro were supposed to remove one meter on 2 Sept; they didn't... First I knew was a big bill from them to 13 Oct. E.On's deal has expired (not unreasonable, they held it open for 3 months) so now trying to get SH to honour that deal, plus a goodwill payment for the time I've spent trying to sort this out... THTC is very slightly cheaper than SH Economy 7 tariff; it 'chooses' when to supply at lower rate, rather than set period of 7 hours. Never knew I had it until now...0

Hi Stuart,
I just wondered whether you had any updates on this? Are you still glad you made the switch?

Are utility w h o r e house that desperate for customers that a new poster has to drag up a 3 year old post that happens to mention utility w h o r e house to ask how the new poster in the original post got on with utility w h o r e house?
And the OP has never been back since then.0
