Or is it? After 26 years we are separating, been on income support for years & I'm worried how my wifes gonna be treated by the benefits system. she'll be a disabled single mother with carrers allowance for our 17 year old disabled son. i had presumed she would just continue on income support, but from a benefits advice site it appears tax credits maybe needed

From my experience,she will be treated very well. I was treated with dignity by everyone when I split with my ex and found everyone very helpful.
I'm sorry I can't give you exact info on what she will need to claim,but someone on here will be able to.
It's very sad,is there no way you can rescue things? As you say,26 years is a very long time but it sounds like you have both had a rough time of it.Did you get the maximum help with your son? Sorry to be so personal.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
