Hi guys heres one for you to mull over. Is there anything that you can put on wallpaper that will help to protect it from accidental bumps and knocks?. I am only asking as we have had the entire house decorated not 4 weeks ago and already there are a couple of small scratches and scrapes on the wallpaper.
Is there anything such as some form of clear varnish which would help to protect the walls??
Hope you guys out there can be of some assistance
Cheers

I know where you are coming from here. I dont know of any kind of varnish im afraid, I think if there were it would make the paper difficult to get off when you need to redo it, I think it would also change color over time, more than the wallpaper would, but its a nice idea. I am sure I have heard of it being done though so I am interested in any reponses this thread gets.
Walls are supposed to get knocked and scraped as much as we would like them to stay perfect after so much time and money has been speant decorating. We also dont think of the durability of paper when we choose it.
I have a similar problem, I have decorated the whole downstairs with a kind of cream textured paper and omg everyday I see new marks on it, especially in the hallway where things are dragged down it. "Watch the walls" is my new catch phrase.
Now when it was just painted this didnt bother me as much, I could wipe marks with a cloth or could retouch the paint or know it wouldnt take a day to repaint the whole wall if it got to bad. As you know this cant be done with paper.
Paper can look stunning, and a freshly decorated house is lovely but it wont stay that way forever. While its newly done you could try to protect the parts that will get the most dirt and wear. You could put up those protectors around the light switches and I have put up a right angled piece of perspex on a corner that juts into the hall that gets the most knocks.
While I was away my brother dropped the hoover pipe on the wall and took off the top layer of paper in a line which left a nasty black mark. He touched up the mark with a bit of magnolia which at the time made it look much better, but now the magnolia has changed from cream to an orangey color and is very noticable so dont be tempted to try this
I would love to hear of any other ways people have of protecting paper. . .0
