Ditched AVG 8 for AVAST, any hints or tips?

Hello, After too many problems to mention I have ditched AVG in favour of AVAST. I've never used it before and wondered if anyone had any hints or tips/tweaks. One thing that does annoy me is the a ball spinning, can it be stopped? Also does anyone know how I set a schedule scan? Thanks

Right click your taskbar?

Select "customize notifications"

Set the avast! spinning ball to "always hide".

BTW, I've been using avast! for about a year and it has been far better than anything I have used before.
