Second Hand Car Woes

  • It is not a trade sale. You are not in the trade. IT IS NOT A TRADE SALE.

Tell them they can keep the car until it is repaired and roadworthy, meanwhile you'll keep the V5 (without which they cannot resell it), and inform trading standards, and also take them to court.

Enter into no further correspondence with them until they return the car, in the condition in which it was advertised.

The £12.50 daily storage charge would be laughed out of court.

OK, if it is a V Reg, it is almost certainly a 1999 car, not a 2001, so they have mis-sold it you.

Take a copy of the original advert together with a copy of your documents to Trading Standards, they will certainly be able to help you.

In which case you will know that a sentence shouldn't be started with the word " And ".

hav you called trading standards (have a copy of the advert for the sale of the car), also citizen's advice for some free legal advice.

did you pay by credit card (raise a dispute with your card issuer, who will be jointly and severably liable)
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Yeah it is, they can call it that.

Scroll down to the letter/post "The wonderful thing..."

Although this article covers the fact that the dealer sold it at close to cost, any car that is 9/10 years old like the OP's will be considered trade sale, because the value is so low there is no margin in it to cover warranty or that the vehicle is at a reasonable age that it has to be classified as sold as seen.

It is (trade sale) now just a term that covers cars that have little value and would be scrapped if they had to be sold with a warranty as they would be too risky to sell on.
