  • cheers to all the replies even if it strayed away from the main topic a bit

it looks like i would be best accepting it as a 'sh~t happens' situation and try and move on and not get stressed about it

as said the website is appauling and i am certain there was nothing to take me to the online check-in, i arrived at the airport 45mins before flight but i bought a drink and joined the massive queue waiting to get thru security so by the time i got to the front the check in desk was closed, prestwick airport is not that busy but if there happens to be other flights at that time you have had it.

i havent taken a domestic flight before and i suppose i was trying to treat it like getting a train .

i still have my email and the only thing i have about the online checkin in that email is a link to the faq.

It does however point out the timings in your email...

ALL airport check-in desks open 2 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time and close strictly 40 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time.

Shame you didn't book on one of the £1 flights to Bournemouth advertised this past week travelling Sept and Oct but booking for those finished midnight last night. I'm off to Bournemouth in December for 1p each way :)

Edited to add the bit from my most recent email confirmation which is at the top of the emai

THANK YOU FOR BOOKING WITH RYANAIR Please do not reply to this e-mail.
Passengers are advised to reconfirm their flight times using the REVIEW function in the Manage My Booking section from 24 to 72 hours prior to scheduled departure – click below https://www.bookryanair.com/SkySales/FRManageBooking.aspx

don't you just love the anti-ryanair people

just think if there was no ryanair, and no 1p flights, to be paid with electron cards,

the other flight companies, would have a ball charging what they wanted for flights, because there would be no competition.

Southwest Airlines operate in America on a very similar business model, Ryanair copied from them, except Ryanair added their own twist 'treat the customer like dirt'. There are plenty of other budget airlines all over the world, Ryanair are not magic.
Yes right, 4 people travelling sure i'm gonna pay an extra £200 quid not to fly ryanair, today people are moaning cause bread has gone up by 10p a loaf

While it depends on your route, on our flight from London to Frankfurt our additional costs amounted to:

£50 for petrol instead of flying from our local Heathrow
£50 for parking (could have caught the bus to Heathrow for £1 each)
€24 per person for the 2 hr bus journey to actually get to Frankfurt (over 120km distant) . Total = €48
Wasted time, let's value it at say £20/hour (very low) * seven hours (extra hour and a half to Stansted each way, four hours for the bus to Frank Furt Han) = £140. Total £280
Rip-off on the plane for snacks and in the horrible Ryanair-sponsored airport = £20

Total extra cost for flying Ryanair = £440

So yes, I think I'd be happy to pay an extra £50 per person * 4!

I realise that it won't always be this bad, and the airports will be convenient for some people, but the warning is there, cheap flights don't always translate into a good or even cheap holiday.
Oh and no other travel company charges for using visa, even easyjet do

What, a per sector charge even when there is only one transaction? I don't think so.

This is just another 'up yours' message from Ryanair to its customers.
I've never once seen this on a flight, just get to the front of the que and your fine

Reassuring I'm sure if you're taking your young children on holiday, c'mon kids, let's stand in this line for two hours. Great fun.
I have taken my friend many a time on a ryanair flight, and she is in a wheelchair, we have never had any problem, we board the flight last, and are always seated together somewhere in between rows 2 and 6, as these seats are left for us, we exit the flight last, we have no contact with ryanair staff,we are always in the hands of the ground staff, at whichever airport we are at. .i tell the airline that i don't need wheelchair assistance round the airport, i'm quite able to push my friend in her chair around the airport, but that i will need help to board the plane, just before checkin i go to the front of the que, and ask the check in staff to call for assistance, if it isn't there, then ground staff from the airport help us onto the plane, the same happens when we get to our desination, we wait on the plane for ground staff to come and get us...................so how can this be ryanairs fault

Fact is, Ryanair have a history of treating disabled people with contempt. I'm not disabled, none of my family are, but the way they have behaved is disgusting.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1392650.ece
"Ryanair refused to help disabled passenger board plane "

Paul Heath, 53, told yesterday how Ryanair crew said the couple would be left behind if wife Jo, 54, could not get on the aircraft herself

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3443739.stm
    "Ryanair loses disability ruling"

Bob Ross said it was discriminatory to be charged an £18 fee because he was unable to walk to the check-in desk.
Judge Crawford Lindsay QC ruled Ryanair acted unlawfully by not ensuring a free wheelchair was provided. Ryanair plans to appeal the judgement and says a 50p wheelchair levy will now be imposed on every passenger flying with the company

Not only did they refuse to display any compassion towards the disabled, they proceeded to humiliate and stigmatise them by blaming them for a charge levied on everyone.

Mr O'Leary said. "We would rather not charge the levy, but we kept getting people who just didn't fancy the long walk to the plane and declared themselves to be in need of assistance."

    Rude b@st@rd.

I would do whatever I can to avoid a company that demonstrates such clear and consistent contempt for its customers.

It's maschostic the way that people are so accustomed to being treated shabbily by Ryanair that they seem to ENJOY being treated like dirt. As a result, whenever anyone complains about them there's a dozen replies telling them to suck it up. If it was any other company the advice would be to fight back, complain to the manager, but no, Ryanair is apparently allowed to function like a third world dictatorship. Not for me. If you want to fly them, good on you, but don't expect everyone else to have such low standards.

What has that got to do with Ryanair?

The answer btw is no, they are still working out the correct bill. And then they are going to give me some interest-free credit to pay it off. Thanks Council workers for not doing your job properly in the first place, I've made some nice interest on that!

It's sad to see this thread degenerating (once again) into a pro-RyanAir versus anti-RyanAir viewpoints.

The OP stated his situation, was given some responses, obviously thought about what had happened, whether he had much chance of recompense & decided to cut his losses (in my opinion a good choice).

I'm not a masochist, have never been treated shabbily or like dirt by Ryanair (or any other airline for that matter).
To be fair, a lot of complaints about Ryanair are similar to this one (where the OP got things wrong) or about people not reading T&Cs.
Other complaints are about credit/debit card charges.

My way of looking at flying with Ryanair is to consider:
    1. Is the flight from one of my local airports?
    2. Does the flight land at a convenient airport?
    3. Are the departure times convenient?
    4. IS THE FLIGHT CHEAPER (EVEN INCLUDING TAXES & CARD CHARGES) THAN I CAN GET ANYWHERE ELSE?

If the answer to all of those is 'yes', I book it.
I get to the airport in plenty of time, I take only hand luggage, get to the boarding gate in plenty of time and when it's time for boarding I find the nearest windowseat & sit down.

I did find your original post slightly amusing (points 2-10, as it highlighted all the complaints that most people make about RyanAir.

You have to treat Ryanair for what it is - a flying bus service!

Read the small print, take only hand luggage, check in on line and arrive at least an hour before the flight and you will not have any problems.

Yes, I hate using them but do from time to time as Prestwick is my nearest and most easily accessed airport for quick trips to London and to family in Poole.

My last trip to BOH two weeks back cost £26 all in for 2 people and even adding on £30 for parking and £20 for fuel that is still a fraction of the £250 it would cost me to drive down and much less stressful (even if we were 50 mins late on return departure).

I would never ever use Ryanair for overseas travel; Easyjet I do use to/from Germany and find them better in all respects; but again you need to work the system to your advantage.
