advice needed

my dad has just been diagnosed with cancer and i have a brother and a sister who we have not had any contact for 25 years,my dad hasnt got long but he dosnt want me to contact them he says they didnt want to know him and my mother when he was ok why now? at the moment i dont know how i feel or what to do i know its his wish.my mother is still here and she needs care as she has dementia so i will look after her as my dad has asked me too.

I'm so sorry about your Dad. I know exactly what you're going through as my Dad was diagnosed last year and passed away within 5 weeks, although as I am an only 'child' I didn't have the problems of notifying any other family.

I would do as your father has asked, so as not to to upset him at this time. There'll be time enough to let everyone else know afterwards.

It will be hard for you having to look after your Mum as well, make sure you get all the help you can from Social Services.

If the MacMillan nurses are helping, they're excellent at giving you advice, help and support as well as seeing to the patient.
