Hi
making preparations for the cold winter they keep going on about.
What footwear is best on snow? I keep being told it is rubber, is that the same as trainers or is it something else?
Is leather no good on snow?
Thanks

Gortex walking boots or my fav thick socks and wellies

Basically anything that keeps the wetness out, is breathable and has a good grip on the sole."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Do you have a budget in mind? What is your size? Are you M or f?
I might be able to find you some examples with a bit more info

You need a bit of tread rather than a smooth sole and get a 1/2 size larger and wear 2 pairs of socks. For leather uppers, proof with a wax compound - Nikwax or similar (should be available in any camping type shop).0

What does that mean re leather uppers, should i put it around the shoe or also underneath to stop slipping? All that glisters is not gold, except moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I went to Lapland a couple of years ago and bought a good sturdy pair of walking boots with a thick tread on them. Now whenever it snows I dig them out. They keep your feet warm and you can walk more or less normally in the ice as they hardly slip at all.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Try https://www.surefoot.net they do an anti-slip kind of rubber outer boot that fits around your boot or shoe, they are called "get-a-grip advanced & ultra". I think QVC sell them as well.viney wrote:Hi

Just what the upper bit of the boot is made from - you can get decent walking boots in leather or fabric (eg Goretex), soles are almost always composite (rubber and plastics). You can get proofing spray for fabric boots, the Nikwax stuff for leather is what we used to call Dubbin (for rugby/footy boots).viney wrote:MANATHOME

Wellies - they always work well and are cheap! If you can buy the lined ones they keep your feet warm too.0
