Hi
Does anyone know where the best place to get a cheap maternity tens machine from? I want to buy one not rent. Delivery would need to be asap!
Also do they realy help with labour?? and is there any diferance in there effectiveness between the different brands? If so can anyone recommend the best one to get?
Thank you

I bought a boots one from e-bay when pregnant with my eldest (who is almost 4). I used it on my 2nd baby & have probably passed it around to about 10 friends.
I think it works fantastically, although you don't always think so at the time! My eldest was back to back & the pain was awful - but I tried the tens machine later & you could feel what it was doing!
Make sure whatever you get has the booster button to up the intensity during contractions & also a seperate mode for when you are actually pushing!
Good luck with finding one.

I used the Elle Tens machine which I bought online. I was in the same boat as you, needing superquick delivery. Unfortunately I can't find the website I bought mine from but a quick google search shows up lots of sites offering free delivery (as the one I used did).
Everyone's labour is different but I found the tens machine really good for the first stages of labour in combination with a birthing ball (borrowed). Eventually though, the pulses from the tens machine were getting on my nerves and more uncomfortable than the contractions (if that's possible!).
I chose to buy rather than rent because I intended to use the machine afterwards for my shoulder and back pain.
Would definitely use the machine again if I have another child.
Good luck and congratulations!Won 2011: Annual tastecard membership :T0 -
I tried one when I had my first baby, but it had no effect on the pain at all. I kept turning it up and up, and I could feel a tingling sensation where the pads were stuck on, but it still didn't have any affect on the pain.
It did charge me up with loads of static though, and nobody could touch me without getting an electric shock. Not good considering where they need to touch youHere I go again on my own....0 -

Me too, I was so disappointed. I found it really irritating and ended up chucking it.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0 -
My partner got offered one to rent from the local maternity unit, she passed on the offer...I think it's a bit hit and miss if it helps or not.0

i used one for my 3rd child, i thought it realy helped with the pain, though my dh got realy cheesed off with it, as towards the end the sticky pads were moving all over the place, and he had to keep adjusting them getting shocks!!
when i switch it on now i cant get past number 1 on the dial, and in full labour i had it on full blast. you would have to peel me off the ceiling if you stuck it on my back at full blast now !!
i bought mine on ebay, im sure there are sites where you can hire them.0 -
I got the ObiTens one from Babies R Us, just picked it up instore off the shelf. If you sign up for the Mother & Baby/Gold Card Club then they send you a £5 off voucher. I think they're normally 44.99, but they were on offer at 39.99 when I got mine so with the voucher was 34.99. I think it was about £25 to hire and they had some on e-bay around this price, but these didn't have the boost button. I found mine great as it really distracted from the pain, if anything it gave hubby something to do as he ended up pressing the boost button for me. We ended up sticking them on with micropore tape as I had my baby at the end of July and it was particularly hot/sweaty and they kept slipping off.0
