Will I lose my house???

I fully sympathise with you as you are trying so hard to work,be a good mum, keep the roof over your childrens' heads. I have said amny times that it seems unfair that those in rented accomodation can get help which often far exceeds the cost of a mortgage. Mine is about the same as yours and I am in arrears and very anxious about it at the moment, especially with fuel costs escalating. If I lose my home rented around here for 2 bedrooms is about £300 a month more than the mortgage on my 4 bed house (ironically I could claim HB for that)-and I would happily repay the govt from the eventual equity if only I could recieve help now when I desperately need it. I have been trying to get back to work all summer but have now been told I need major surgery so my plans are stuck on hold for the duration. Abbey have quoted me £250 to process going onto interest only-which I don't have at the moemnt- plus they may refuse but don't return the £250 if they decline you! So not a cheap solution, but it would save me about £180 per month if accepted.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

I agree with dmg24 in their assessment, there are exceptios to the 39 week waiting period (lone parents, abandoned by their partners, carers etc) but I don't see you qualifying under those rules unfortunately, which is desperately sad.
The government are seemingly looking at ways to help prop up the housing market, they couldn't do better than urgently reconsidering the 39 week waiting period & maybe revert to the pre-Oct 95 rules as soon as possible in order to prevent repossessions. With the old rules I think you got 50% mortgage interest at 8 weeks then 100% interest at 16 weeks. Or they could even do something even more radical and give you the help you need when you actually need it, as they do with housing benefit ... and give you help right from the very beginning of your claim.0 -
I have considered throwing the towel in and handing the keys back to go into council accommodation but the difference between the mortgage and what the rent would be is a couple of hundred quid so that has spurred me on to try and do something before I give in so to speak.
I realise a couple of hundred quid is a big saving for some of us but I won't give up the battle that easily.I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0 -
:T cant help much but just wanted to give credit where its due,

Annie. That last post made me cry all over again lol. Thank you so much. Encouragement is what I need right now. I expected some benefit basher to come along and tell me to keep grinding along at the pace I have. Not possible any longer, I am thin as a rake and permanantely tired. Never any time or money for the kids. There has to be a solution to all this mess. I dont want to give up wok altogether but am looking at stuff I can do to remedy the dilemma.I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0

I don't have spare room no. My kids each have a room (a girl and a boy) and I obviously have my own room. If it was there I would definitely consider it but just not possible, at their ages they need their own rooms. Great suggestion though, keep em coming

You would be unlikely to get Council accommodation if you gave your keys back as they would deem you to have made yourself homeless.
Is there anything you can do to help raise the mortgage money? Have a lodger perhaps? Or could you even sell your home and move into privately rented?
I feel for you and hope you find a solution soon..(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Could you share a room with your daughter so you could have a lodger?
I know it's not ideal, but desperate means need desperate measures.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Well I tried working full-time and part-time but still struggling and worn out so I dont think there is room to fit anymore "man hours" in! I am looking at cutting back on every possible angle at the moment.
I feel for you and hope you find a solution soon..
Thank you
