Council Tax

Does anyone have the official amount of council tax(%-wise) that students pay when they live with a professional?
I know students don't have to pay any, but am sure that there is something like 25% off if one of the tenants is a student??

You get 25% as long as there is only you and one other working adult in the house.
My friend didn't get the discount because there was her OH and her 18 year old dd working within the household.0 -
As far as council tax is concerned, students don't count as a 'person'. So if you have a household with one working person and one student, the property gets the single person discount of 25%. If you have a household of two working people and a student, there is no discount.0

Thanks. And I note.....people are disregarded if...they are a member of a religious society.
Excuse my racism, but I'd like to know more about this.0 -
And it also says students pay 50%? That's not right.0

i think it's something like places of worship don't have to pay council tax. i don't think the choice of religion itself is important.currynchips wrote: »Thanks. And I note.....people are disregarded if...they are a member of a religious society.

These are monks and nuns, and so forth. And nothing racist about asking the question.0 -
The real problem occurs if a non-student lives in a house-share with students. Say it is a big house with 6 bedrooms, 5 occupied by students and one by a non-student. The liability is reduced by 25%, but if the house is large, chances are the house will fall into a high band and the bill be large.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
