we are seasoned travellers on the Hull Rotterdam route, when are you going,
what type of accommodation do you need, do you need transportation into
Rotterdam from Europort or are you taking your car, how long are you staying, is it just for a mini cruisemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Hi
we did this route in April, and felt really ripped off.
Being 5 of us, bee had a large cabin and pre-paid evening meal and breakfast on both journeys. The total was well over £500 .
My only advice would be to not eat onboard.
Find a chippie or pub to eat before you board, and take something for breakfast.
Although the food for evening meal was quite good quality, the restaurant was like a scrum, (and we watched one table go back for 5 puddings!!) and our 3 kids found the food a bit too fancy (they like their roast dinners!!!).
Plus, on both journeys, we were rushed for breakfast and on the return to Hull the restaurant was so busy that we had to leave half way through our food as we docked 30 mins early!!0 -
I have been travelling by ferry for about 15 years now. I go to Southern Europe for winter. Every year I try in vain to get a discount. I go for the overnight journeys and I have travelled from Southern England to Northern Spain/Brittany. From Scotland/Hull to Zeebrugge. The best discount I have ever received was 10% on standard fare when Scotland/Hull started up and had an introductory offer.Something Really Interesting0

I'm due to sail to Rotterdam this evening, (and then transfer to Amsterdam) and having used the ferries before I am very much looking forward to it.
I would suggest looking at third-party websites such as ferries.co.uk to compare the rates, I managed to save around £35 when booking only last week at short notice.
*However* (Mild thread hijack alert!) - I see they have now introduced a £5 per 24 hour parking charge at the ferry terminal, which is suprising as until fairly recently it was completely free.
As I don't return until Saturday morning, and as there are only 2 people travelling, I'm going to try and find some local free parking to avoid paying £25!
Does anybody have any experience of parking in the local residential streets? I understand Hull has a permit parking scheme in some areas but I cannot find a coverage map on the council website... Any local knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated!
(Sorry for the hijackage, but it would be useful info for fellow/future travellers!)0 -
Annie- am using the route (normally travel to France from South ports) and will drive on to Eindhoven Hull from Manchester 1 person with a car, and a disabled badge (that has saved me money in the past)...
Gavioli - do you mean there own phone numbers or can you suggest 3rd parties?
Brodev - quidco offer 6%
stylus pilot - will check ferries .co.uk but yesterday couldnt connect.

so thanks so far for the help.0 -
Booking on poferries.nl (clear your internet browser cookies first) and paying in euros is sometimes a little cheaper. If you have to make an amendment to your booking then the fee is the same whether in pounds or euros (i.e. £59 or €59) so it's much cheaper if you've booked on the Dutch website (maybe you could make the amendment via the Dutch call centre even if you'd booked on the British website).
Make sure you specify the names of everyone in your party at booking. Last time I booked I selected two adults but the web form didn't ask for the second name. They swore blind at me I'd booked only for one but I had the confirmation saying it was for two (not just a two person cabin, two adults travelling). I meant to complain and try for a refund onboard but never got around to it, maybe I should try my credit card co.0 -

We always check on the P & O number - somtimes get a better deal than on internet.
We have also got at times a free upgrade to a better cabin if we prebook the meals.
I realise Hull is convenient for Manchester, but how do you feel about travelling Harwich - Hoek van Holland on Stena lines. They have some good prices.0 -
think i would go with the quidco.
Food is expensive but as another poster said it is like a scrum. unless
yu go to the up-market restaurant. take your own if you can
