PC crashed - possible to retrieve spreadsheet?

in Techie Stuff
My pc crashed while I was working on a spreadsheet and when I restarted and opened excel, there was nothing recovered. When I opened said spreadsheet, all the work I'd done on it today was gone as I hadn't saved
.
Probably not, but before I do it all again, thought I'd ask the techies if there's anywhere the lost stuff might be.

Newer versions of Excle do have an autosave function. However if this was turned on I would have expected it to have recovered by now - so you may have lost your spreadsheet this time. Try looking in tools - options to see if you can turn it on for next time.0

Well any way try this.
Open Windows Explorer (Click on Folders Icon at the top if need be), Tools, folder Options, View, tick, Show Hidden Files and Folders,
OK, Now Expand the tree Until you get to a Folder called Recent.
When you open Explorer you will automatically go to the My Documents folder.
Now click on the + symbol next to my computer, and then the + symbol on Local Disk (c), then + symbol next to Documents and Settings, and + next to Your logon name, then + next to Application Data, + symbol next to Microsoft, then + Symbol next to Office... Now is the file on the right hand side of the screen,,, If so click once on it
and then whilst still in explorer click on Edit, Copy to Folder, then choose My Documents then Copy and it will be abck in My Documents ready to work on as usual.
This doesnt always work mind you as the file could be lost totally.
Dont forget to rehide Files and folders as first described just do the opposite (tick hide files and folders.)

Probably an old version of excel but can't see it in tools options to turn on.

To auto save in Excel you need to go to Tools/Add ins and select it there first. Then you will find it will appear in Tools. Click on it and you can specify how often and a few other things too.0 -
Mr Skint - why do you have a file called "cillit_bang"?Mr_Skint wrote:
