in Phones & TV
hi, ive just moved in to a rented property and would like to get broadband . after a lot of searching i i have found that the best package for me, already being a orange costumer is the orange home max . the thing is it needs a connected phone line and after waiting on the phone for nearly 20 minutesto bt i was told that they can turn the line on but i will have to have a 12 month contract with them at around £10 a month . is there any way of just getting connected? or can sign up for the £10 a month then sign up for orange and cancell the bt contract straight away ? any help would be great . thanks ,

If you sign a contract with BT they will make you honour it. I know this is about phone lines and my experience with them was Internet but I would assume their policy would be just the same.
I was living with my mum - she paid for the telephone (through toucan) and I paid for Broadband through BT - had had a 12 month rolling contract with them for several years. I found a place to rent on my own through a private landlord, only problem was that the phone line was cable and the landlord wouldn't allow me to change it to BT. I contacted BT and explained the situation but didn't make any difference, they made me pay the £26.99 each month for Broadband that I couldn't receive!
It certainly taught me that when looking at houses in future to check who the phone is through before signing anything!0 -
no way of connecting the line with BT without the 12 contract, when on basic rental means a cancellation charge that is capped at £70.
Why not call Orange and ask them why they won't connect your line, as any telecoms company can have a line connected but most don't offer the service as they don't make as much money. If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.0
