Have posted this on my diary, but don't think I would get a response there, so I am popping it here in hope!
Have been chatting with OH about his finances a bit. He has a motorbike, which he bought second hand with a loan about 7 or 8 years ago. I don't know the full circumstances, but I know that unemployment, depression and a fair amount of avoidance has led to loads of charges, and it currently being with a DCA.
I do know that my OH's idea of paperwork management is to read something and then destroy it to prevent ID theft. He thinks that bank statements are better as fuel than as a record, while I still have phone bills dating back to 2003! So I sincerely doubt that he would even know how to contact the DCA, let alone how much he owes, if I had not squirreled away some of his paperwork!:rotfl:
The DCA in question is Blair Oliver and Scott. I am almost wondering if it would be worth starting off by asking if they have a CCA. Then I was thinking the next step would be to ask for a balance, followed by offering a F&F settlement.
Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
Thanks, Milly

Firstly, I presume that there was no period of 6 or more years where he did not pay or acknowledge the debt in writing?
Blair Oliver and Scott are not a separate DCA. They are operated by the HBOS group, so I presume that this is a debt owed to of these companies?
If you want to request a copy of the credit agreement and an up to date statement of account, then you can use the letter in the following link:

Make sure that the £1 is a postal order. Normally better to not use his usual signature as well.;)
In the light of what they produce (if anything) following that, then you can start looking into offering a F&FS.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Blair, Oliver and Scott were a DCA I dealt with via my DMP. For me, they were generally quite accommodating and accepted a F&F settlement of £480 on a debt of £1,200 which they accepted with little fuss.
If you do go down the F&F settlement route, make sure you get the offer in writing and that they or any associate or third party will NOT chase you for the rest and that your credit file will be marked as "Satisfied" in full. This is important as they could sell the rest of the debt on.
