I'm looking for a reasonably priced, reasonable quality monitor. mostly for general browsing, occasional gaming.
I've pretty much decided on this one, but wanted to make sure it was a decent one and also that it has built in speakers as I can't find any mention of that in the spec.
Would appreciate any comments...I can't do a proper link!
but it's a Samsung SM943N 19" lcd

Wouldn't you rather have widescreen? Samsung are a good brand0
-
I wasn't sure if widescreen was any better for a monitor, being close to it I mean.
Short sighted, does that make a diff?0 -
Well I find its better and you have the added bonus of being able to watch a dvd at full 16.9 with a slight banding top and bottom as most widescreen are 16.10 ratio
You cant go wrong with Samsung, I am looking at a 24" myself as I have a Viewsonic 19" widescreen now and want a bigger screen, kids are having the old pc and monitor0 -
thats simlar to the one i got, anyway not had a problem with it
mine is 17inch but no speakers built in0 -
I can't seem to find many if I put "built in speakers" in the search when I'm looking.
Do all monitors have sound, or do some need external speakers, I'm a bit confused now0 -
Not ALL monitors have sound no (In fact id say most dont). I recommend at LEAST a 19" widescreen and a DVI connection would be better too (So long as your computer has a DVI output):idea:0

I think I'll have to start looking again!
Does anyone have any recommendations, I def want a 19" please and with built in speakers, (and the dvi connection) please0 -
If your not too bothered about the brand then heres a starting point ~

Screen resolution also plays a part (How sharp the screen is)
This particular one is 1440 x 900
Mine is 1680 x 1050 (sharper)
Its all down to what your bothered about really (And as ive said ~ does your computer actually HAVE a DVI connection on the back as some dont?)
:idea:0 -
Why not have a look at the reviews of monitors in the monthly PC magazines, such as this PCPro batch? It will give you some ideas. The 'average monitor' will continue to get bigger as time passes, and in a year or two's time a 20" monitor will be entry-level!0

for just a couple of quid more you could get a larger widescreen monitor:
