Ok - thanks very much. Having never had a survey done before I wondered where it went to when it had been given to us. I didn't want to look at his recommendations, decide not to do much about anything, and then find that say in ten years time there was an issue with one of his recommendations and the insurance company found out and then wouldn't validate any work we needed doing!! Our surveyor is nearing retirement anyway, so assume that in ten years time he wouldn't be interested anyway LOL!!0

Erm I'm not sure what building work you're thinking of asking your buildings insurance to sort out in the future BUT they don't do stuff that's caused by lack of building maintenance.
And if they find out you knew about subsidence years before they won't either.
Mortgage companies are reluctant to lend on subsidence properties too.0 -
I appreciate everything that has been said, but the mortgage valuation was fine and the bank are happy to lend the money. I just wanted to know whether surveys are held anywhere else other than with us, for example, house deeds can be kept with the bank/building society/solicitor - I just wondered whether surveys were too?0
